east bay forecast. 63 degrees and southwest wind at 5 miles per hour and patchy fog in a few spots. not so much in san jose, but across the golden gate bridge and around the north bay. let's show you what's going on and what's left of the light rain. now well off to the east. behind it, we are stuck with the mild temperatures around the trivalley. dublin and san ramon 82 degrees. as we move to the north, inland east bay should climb into the low 70s. concord and pleasant hill. the first half of the week is looking mild. as we roll into the start of fall wednesday, look at the weekend. temperatures climb up. 80s to near 90, but the story this morning is some of that patchy fog. >> definitely, rob. we will have folks look out for that and as far as the view goes, no fog or low clouds on the top of this 13th floor.

880 looking smooth and overnight we had construction over there on this section of the east bay. right now light volume and the construction looks like it picked up. here coming over towards the castro valley where you see the yellow, speeds below 15 miles per hour. just starting to see more cars. the debris westbound out of castro valley, but it shouldn't be an issue. it should be removed in the next couple of minutes and i will watch that. an easy drive and smooth flow to the dublin interchange down towards the grade. we are following something you have for us new this morning. >> solo drivers new this morning on 680. we will have the option of hopping into the carpool lane if they are willing to pay for the privilege. headed southbound for about 14 miles between pleasant ton 1k3

milpitas. kristi smith with how this new change and new lane will change your commute. >> good morning. this will definitely move your commute along. you want to get ready and if you want to use it, you have to pay up. estimates are from 30 cents to $6. the lanes are operating at about 5:00 this morning. in about 30 minutes. this is the first of its kind. it has been functioning in southern california for quite a while and other parts of the country. the existing carpool lane is converted with new stripes that detail specific entry and exit points. you pay with your fast track tag and this is electronic. there no toll booths or a need to slow down. the average toll is expected to be about $4 to $6. the price would tell you how much it would be to mission street or all the way down.

regular koor poolers or motorcyclers with the hov stickers can use it for free and if you have fast track and if you are one of those drivers, you want to cover it to make sure you don't get charged. this is the first and express lanes are coming to 580 in pleasant to livermore and 237 fly over in milpitas. in about 30 minutes. come on down and use it. kristi smith today in the bay. >> tell me more about the bag. why do you need to cover the fast track? >> if you are one of the people who wouldn't ordinarily get charge and someone who can use the lane for free if you ride a motorcycle or you are in a carpool, you want to make sure you have a mylar bag to cover it. if you have your fast track and you drive by, you would get charged anyway. there was a gentlemen i was talking with who said you put it in your glove box, you can still

get charged. if you don't have to pay, you want to make sure you are not charged. >> christie smith from 680. >> police are hoping to nab a man who robbed a high profile politician, gene quan. he was walking into a safeway about 9:30 saturday night when a man came up behind her and grabbed her purse. she struggled to hold on, but the thief took off and jumped in a car and sped away. police later recovered the purse, but the wallet was gone with about $50 in cash. >> i'm embarrassed. i tried to hold on to my purse and we tell people never to go after them. >> she said it's the first time in 30 years something like this happened to her. one of her opponents has always been a victim on oakland streets. he was carjacked at gunpoint in

oakland about three years ago. >> in danville a man is under arrest for finding pipe bombs in his home. they responded to amigo road close to diablo record. kimberly terry explains why neighbors were already suspicious of the house. >> police say they were called to the danville neighborhood after reports of an argument. officers found out it involved eric dennis who had three pipe bombs and bomb-making materials in the house. >> i was surprised. the house sticks out for the neighborhood and for that bomb squad, it definitely threw us. >> the house that was involved and folks living here a long time and parents passed away sometime ago and children living there. >> police have been called, but never for anything as serious as bombs. >> kind of a surprise for us all.

a scary surprise. >> this neighborhood is full of children. there is a school across the street and that's definitely not what you want in your neighborhood or anywhere. >> the walnut creek bomb squad was call in to detonate and get rid of the color. neighbors said they were out to stay in the back of their homes, but weren't asked to leave. many neighbors did not want to go on camera, but told us they have been suspicious of the home for years, people coming and going at all times of the night. they call it the problem house in the neighborhood and say they called police themselves, asking that something be done. we did knock at the door where the pipe bombs were found and the people inside did not want to comment. police arrested eric dennis and booked him where he is being held on $650,000 bond. he is facing changes and possession of materials to make a destructive device.

in danville, nbc bay area news. >> a judge will decide whether to move a murder case out of the bay area. they will not be able to find an impartial jury in the east bay in the trial because of relentless negative news coverage. he is accused of ordering the killing of investigative journalist chauncy bailey from the muslim black bakery. he was working on a story about the bakery's finance when is he was shot and killed. the uc berkeley graduate freed from ivan calling her arrest a huge misunderstanding. sarah shourd said she, shane bahher and josh fattal had no idea they were hiking on the border between iraq and iran and did nothing to justify their arrest. her fiance and friend remain jailed in iran charged with espionage. shourd said she will not feel entirely free until they are free as well. >> i stand before you only one

third free. that was the last thing that josh said to me before i walked through the prison doors. josh and shane felt one third free at that moment and so did i. >> the two mothers of the two men behind bars travelled to new york to bring attention to the case. there is no trial date set 13 months after imprisonment. >> when i knew sarah was definitely released, it was a bitter sweet moment for me. the cold hard truth is shape and josh are still in prison. we want them home. >> shourd did not deviate from the statement and did not take questions. it's unclear what her medical condition is. she could be suffering for breast cancer and the beginning stages of cervical cancer, but she was given a clean bill of health.

under way at the oil spill site at the gulf of mexico. teams leaving after successfully sealing the fractured deep water horizon well. scientists say the final seal, 74 barrels of cement is holding and that the well will likely never leak again. for many along the coast, the fight against the oil that almost leaked continues and it stretches to capitol hill where south louisiana parish leaders are expected to drive that point home to lawmakers. dozens of family ares moving after a wildfire destroyed their homes north of salt lake city. more than 100 firefighters working to put out the name this is morning and the fire broke out yesterday at a gun range at a national guard training facility. officials are still trying to figure out what happened. republican gubernatorial candidate meg whitman will be

stopping for votes in sacramento and bring her campaign to the company to speak to local voters and employees starting at 11:00 this morning. whitman will be getting help from michael bloomberg and he will travel to california next month to urge voters to back whitman instead of democrat jerry brown. he is trying to push his cent rus brand of politics by making endorsements and helping gop candidates fend off the tea party movement. whitman just this past week broke bloomberg's record for the most personal money ever spent on a campaign. president obama heads to philadelphia today to raise money for a democrat who could help his party maintain control in congress. as today in the bay's tracie potts reports, republicaning see an opportunity to take over. it's that nation's newest political movement that could
